Meaning

The first twin: sent to taste the world.

From tọ́ ayé wò, "taste the world": in Yoruba thought Táíwò is the first twin out, sent ahead by the elder twin to see if the world is fit. Twins (ìbejì) are held sacred.

The paradox is deliberate: though born first, Táíwò is considered the younger, the scout, sent by Kẹ́hìndé who "waits behind".
